Newry Swimming & Waterpolo Club started about forty five years ago as a social swimming club. It soon developed into a competitive club and currently has 114 swimmers, ranging in age from 7 to 18.

Martin has been a coach with Newry and Mourne Swim Club for over 10 years, taking up position as Head Coach in Sept 2019.

Born in Barcelona in 1974. Learnt to swim and played waterpolo in his local club - C.N. Sant Andreu (Barcelona). His son, Alex, plays for the U15 team.
Keith Garry
Swim Coach
Keith Garry is a Swim Ireland Level 2 Coach and currently coaches the Newry Senior Squad, including his two sons Finn and Oisin.
He has a background in competitive swimming, having swam for Lurgan ASC, where he qualified for the Ulster Squad in the 200 & 100 Backstroke and 200 & 100 Freestyle. Keith went on to become an Ulster medallist and finalist in the Irish Nationals.
Following his competitive pool swimming, Keith discovered a passion for open water swimming. He has completed two solo Channel Swims, the first being the English Channel in 2014, he touched French soil after 11 hours and 42 minutes and was awarded ‘The Most Meritorious Swim of the Year’ due to the conditions. In 2016, he completed the North Channel in 9 hours and 57 minutes, gaining the Guinness World Record for fastest male record, which he held until 2022.
As a member of the OA Giants channel swimming relay team, Keith and the team completed the North Channel in 2020 in a record time of 9 hours and 2 minutes. One week later, he completed the inaugural OA Channel from the Isle of Islay to Northern Ireland in a time of 16 hours and 57 seconds. In 2021, Keith completed the St Georges Channel from Wexford to Wales in a time of 34 hours and 25 minutes. Keith continues to enjoy open water swimming and challenging himself with swims in new locations. Some of his adventures are documented on his swim blog at http://ginganinjaswims.blogspot.com/ .

Barry Magill
Swim Coach
Barry is one the Club’s level 2 coaches. He has been playing waterpolo from the age of 14 for Newry and has also represented Ireland and Ulster at junior levels. Barry has been coaching with Newry for the last 12 years and is currently assistant coach for the U17 Irish Team.
Oonagh Garry
Water Polo Coach
For over 30 years, Oonagh Garry has been a passionate water polo player. She is actively
playing with Diamonds Waterpolo Club in Belfast and competing in the Division One Ladies National League. Her outstanding accomplishments with Diamonds include winning a Bronze Medal at the FINA World Masters Tournament in Budapest in 2017 and another Bronze Medal at the LEN Masters Tournament in Rome in 2023. In a voluntary capacity Oonagh is currently the Secretary of the Ulster Waterpolo Committee and represents Ulster on the National Waterpolo Committee. She is also the Team Manager of the National U15 Irish Waterpolo Boys Team. In 2016, Oonagh and three of her Diamonds teammates set a new record by completing the North Channel in a record-breaking time of 9 hours and 56 minutes as part of an all-female 4-person relay team. In 2022, Oonagh achieved another remarkable feat by completing the
Haulbowline Lighthouse Swim and currently holds the course record.
